Is the class suitable for beginners?
Yes, all our classes are suitable for beginners but also suitable for people with some experience as well. The meditations are guided and there are opportunities to ask questions.
Why meditate?
Meditation is a simple way of calming the mind so that we are able to remain peaceful and focused, regardless of what is going on around us.
What do the classes cover?
The classes explore Buddhist wisdom and psychology and how to easily apply an understanding of this into daily life. Each class typically includes 2 guided meditations, a talk, some discussion and an opportunity to stay for refreshments afterwards if you wish.
Do I need to bring anything or wear any particular clothing?
No, participants sit on chairs and you do not need to wear any particular clothing. We try to make it is as easy as possible for people!
Can I drop in at any point of the course or do I need to start at the beginning?
Each class is self-contained so you can drop in at any point and many people start after the beginning of the course. Of course, it is great if you can attend the whole course but if you've found out about it half way through and want to give it a try, you don't need to wait.
Is there any physical exercise involved?
No.
Do I have to be a Buddhist to attend the classes?
No, the classes are suitable for everyone, regardless of religious belief or experience. The intention behind them is tsimply to help people to find peace. The drop in classes present Buddha's phlilosophy and psychology in a practical way that is suitable for everyone. We often find people practising other faiths attend our classes and can find that they are very helpful.
Can I attend classes at different locations each week?
Yes, we run classes on different evenings in a variety of locations to suit people's needs. Even if you book for a series you are welcome to attend a class on a different evening in a different venue if you wish.
Who teaches the classes? All classes are taught by experienced practitioners who attend an appropriate Kadampa study programme. Some teachers are lay and some are ordained. All classes are based on Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's clear and modern presentation of Kadampa Buddhist teachings. The teacher and assistant receive no payment and all class fees cover running costs.
