Meditation, helps us to identify and understand the types of thoughts that make us happy and the types of thoughts that disturb our peace and make us unhappy.Since our state of mind determines whether we are happy or not and determines our actions, it is important to learn to increase positive states of mind and reduce harmful states through meditation.

Kadampa Buddhist meditation gives us the tools we need to be able to control our mind no matter where we are or what we are doing. Through learning to become more mindful of how we are looking at the world, we can then develop an ability to change the way we look at it.
All our stress arises because of the way we view our world, rather than coming from the world itself. It arises because our expectations are often unrealistic and we cling tightly onto people and things, believing that we depend upon them for our happiness.
By learning to rely upon a peaceful, happy mind, we can respond to every day situations and people more positively, our relationships with improve, we will feel more at peace and we will become more effective in whatever we do. Eventually, through learning to control our mind, we can learn how to be happy all the time and attain the lasting peace of Nirvana.
